WLRN Interview with Jeanne Sarson & Linda MacDonald

On October 19th, 2021, WLRN member April Neault sat down with Jeanne Sarson and Linda MacDonald to discuss their recently released book entitled, Women Unsilenced: Our Refusal to Let Torturers-Traffickers Win.

Linda and Jeanne are two retired nurses from Nova Scotia, Canada, who have taken up the battle to get Non-State Torture recognized as a crime against humanity. More specifically, they see these crimes as being born from misopedia and misogyny as the majority of victims are children and women.

Taken from Linda & Jeanne’s website (linked below) NST can be described as : Non-State actor torture refers to torture committed by parents, spouses, other kin, guardians, neighbors, trusted adults, strangers, human traffickers, johns, pimps or pornographers, for example. It is generally referred to as torture that happens in the private or domestic sphere.
